Case study
AME relaunch
Coventry University’s Institute of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) celebrated a relaunch after £6M of investment. CUOL became the media partner for this event providing full video, livestream, metaverse, and A/V support/coordination over the two-day event.
As a bonus, the team’s work was broadcast as part of a news segment on BBC Midlands Today!
The Digital Media Team worked in close collaboration with the Institute of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, as well as with colleagues from Marketing and Communications, to design and facilitate their relaunch event on 8/9 November 2023. The client required support in four areas:
– Pre and post-event marketing videography and photography
– The build of a metaverse (a 1:1 virtual replica of their facilities for guests to browse online)
– Live streaming of their presentations to remote audiences
– A/V support with a large LED wall for presentations and video playback
Metaverse
A metaverse is a ‘digital twin’ of a real thing, produced virtually. The AME have a fantastic facility based within Coventry, but with stakeholders based around the globe a significant number would be unable to experience the premises in person. We created a metaverse, and built an exact copy of the AME facility enabling at-distance visitors to experience a digitally hosted live event and undertake a virtual site tour with personalised avatars.
Marketing content
The content provided to BBC News was generated as part of our marketing activity. CU Online produced several videos to be distributed as part of the pre-event communications to entice more attendees, and to warm up those who had already signed up.
BBC News
A lovely bonus on top of everything was that BBC Midlands Today ran a spot on the AME relaunch during the Breakfast News broadcast on the morning of the launch event. We provided our video footage and filmed an interview with Marcos Kauffman, Director of the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, as part of the press package and it stood out amongst the other news pieces in terms of its high quality and production value.
Live stream
With remote attendees able to browse the AME facility through the metaverse, we needed to join up the experience by broadcasting the presentations happening in the physical space into the virtual space.
We installed our portable multi-camera production studio to meet this need. This included three cameras, along with ingesting a copy of the presentation, capturing speech with microphones and applying graphics. The output was a smooth professional broadcast that enabled distance-viewers to gain as much benefit from proceedings as those who were in the physical space.

“I find myself reflecting on the collective efforts that made this event not just possible, but also profoundly successful. Your dedication, professionalism, and unswerving support played a pivotal role and it’s my privilege to extend a heartfelt thank you to each one of you. To the CU Online and AV/Media teams, your technical prowess ensured our message was conveyed with clarity and impact. I received a number of positive comments about the quality of the videos, the metaverse work, the running of the event, the images, the sound… the list goes on. Thank you for the excellent work!”
